Steps to Mix Naturtint Hair Colors:
Determine your Desired Mix:
- Decide which colors you want to mix. For example, if you want an equal mix of two colors, use a 50:50 ratio, but you can always adjust the ratios according to your desired final shade.
- To achieve better gray coverage, try mixing with a Natural (N) tone.
- If you struggle with pulling red or brassy hues, try mixing with an Ash (A) tone.

Tips for measuring the Colorant and Color Developer:
-
- Measuring in milliliters allows for precise measurement of the liquids. Each bottle will disclose how many milliliters are inside. Depending on the custom hair color mix you are going for, mixing colorant and color developer in consistent proportions is essential if you try to achieve the same color result each time.
- It is important to note that the color developer is sometimes different for each color. The developer bottle will have a lot code followed by a dash and a number followed by HP, for example, LOT 1069-23-7.5HP. If you are mixing two colors and both color developer bottles, for instance, say 7.5HP, you will know they share the same color developer. If the code is different, use both developers in their respective proportions.
- The developer has a thicker consistency, so getting stuck on the sides of everything it touches is common, including the color developer bottle. One trusty trick is to store the tightly sealed color developer bottle upside down so it is easier to squeeze from it.
- The recommended ratio of colorant to developer is 1:1, so you will use the same amount of colorant to color developer, except in the scenario of resistant gray hair, you can reduce the color developer by up to 25% to make a color-concentrated formula.
Combine the Components:
-
- Once you have decided on the measurements of your mix, pour the measured amounts of colorant and developer into a separate glass or plastic mixing bowl and mix altogether.
- Do not use metal or ceramic bowls or utensils to mix.
- Mix thoroughly using a plastic applicator brush until the mixture is smooth and consistent.
Storing Unused Portions:
-
- Cap and store the unmixed portions in their original bottles. Note that exposure to oxygen will start to oxidize the solution, making it less potent over time. Typically, it will keep fine until your next coloring.
Aftercare:
-
- Using the conditioner included in the Naturtint hair color kit is essential to finalize the coloring process and lock in the vibrancy of your new hair color. If you have any leftover, you can continue using the conditioner for consecutive washings.
- Maintain your hair color by using color-safe shampoo, conditioner, and hair care products. All Naturtint hair care products are formulated for color-treated hair.
