48 hours before coloring, perform these two tests:
How to perform a Color Strand Test
How to perform a Sensitivity Test
Ready to color? Easy as 1, 2, 3!
Step one: Prepare and mix your color
Before use, please read the SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS section. If your sensitivity test showed no reaction, you can now color your hair.
Ensure your hair is dry and clean, as the build-up of styling products can affect your color result. We recommend coloring your hair the day after washing to give your scalp time to produce oils that help protect it during the coloring process. Comb your hair before application. Always wear the gloves provided and ensure you have all the utensils you may need at hand.
- Protect your shoulders with a towel to prevent accidental staining of your clothes. You may also wish to protect the immediate surrounding area, especially any carpets or fabric, as permanent staining may occur if the color mixture is accidentally spilled.
- Put on the gloves provided and keep them on during the coloring process.
- Unscrew the caps of the Colorant (A) and the Color Developer (B). Pour the total contents of A into B and replace the cap of B. NOTE: if you are coloring short hair or roots only, please follow OPTION 2 below.
- Shake the Applicator Bottle (B) for 2 minutes until the mixture is totally blended.
- If you are using the Applicator Bottle (B) to mix and apply, IMMEDIATELY unscrew and remove the nozzle tip and progress to step 2: Apply your color.
Step two: Apply your color
Option 1: Full Head
- Using gloved hands, first apply the mixture to your roots, using the tip of the Applicator Bottle (B) to part your hair into small sections.
- Immediately massage the remaining mixture through the rest of your hair to ensure the colorant is evenly spread.
- Leave to develop for 30 minutes.
Option 2: Short Hair/Roots Only
- Using gloved hands, pour your required amount of colorant and developer into a plastic bowl and mix with a brush or plastic utensil for 2 minutes until totally blended. Using a brush, apply the mixture to your roots in sections to ensure complete coverage.
- Massage the mixture into your roots and leave to develop for 20 minutes (30 minutes for stubborn grays)
- Then, using gloved hands, massage the remaining mixture throughout the rest of your hair and leave for a further 5-10 minutes.
To achieve more intense color or to cover stubborn grays, increase the development time to a maximum of 40 minutes.
Tip: if you regularly (every 4-6 weeks) color your hair with the same shade, there is no need to cover the full length of your hair for the full development time. Simply color your roots and then run the color through the lengths of your hair for the last 5-10 minutes of your application. This will help to ensure an even result and add radiant shine. Store any remaining UNMIXED colorant and developer in their original containers, with caps tightly secured, until your next application.
Step three: Rinse and Perfect
- Rinse: after you have reached your desired development time, using gloved hands, gently massage the hair while thoroughly rinsing it with warm water until the water runs completely clear. Make sure that no hair color gel remains in the hair. If color residue persists, wash your hair with a pH-balanced shampoo, such as Naturtint Color Care Shampoo, and rinse again with plenty of water. Any residue left behind may cause undesirable results.
- Apply a small amount of the Multi-Care Mask (C) to your hair while still wet, working from the roots to the tips to ensure all of your hair is covered. This is an important step in the application process and will help lock in your new color.
- After 3-5 minutes, rinse your hair thoroughly to remove the mask. Dry and style as usual.
Tip: the Multi-Care Mask contains 50ml of product, so you can repeat this step in subsequent weeks to prolong the vibrancy of your Naturtint color.
