Heat is a normal part of the oxidative and coupling reaction from mixing the developer and colorant. A mixed formula gets hot if vapors can’t escape. A clogged or closed applicator bottle is the most common cause. The bottle can feel hot if vapors can’t escape after mixing the formula. If you run into this issue, you may try mixing your color in a bowl and applying it with a brush.
